Currently the group is comprised of dancers from the age of 10-14. Each dancer is required to take 2 ballet classes and 2 Jazz classes per week. They do not have to be taken at the 9th Avenue Sshool of Dance, although currently that is where all of the dancers do take classes. The fee for Showstoppers is currently $50 per month which helps cover the cost of the Artistic Director, Choreography and renting studio time. The group is a 501 (c3) organization with a parent board and does require involvement in various activities, such as fundraising, helping schedule events, costuming etc...

Nutcracker Auditions Information

Audition Day: Sat. September 16th 2006
Time: 3:00 - 5:00 pm
Location: 9th Avenue School of Dance
Who can audition: anyone ages 5 and up

Welcome to the wonderful world of Nutcracker!  This is a great performance opportunity for those students who would like another chance at the stage. Many levels of dancers are able to participate in the performance and acting plays as important a role as dancing.  Performing is challenging, fun, and takes many hours of dedicated rehearsal. Each student, along with their family needs to consider the rehearsals and dates that will be required of them and if they will be able to keep those commitments.

Nutcracker rehearsals will generally be on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from September TBA until the performance in December. Occassionally, mid-week rehearsals are required. Each performer is responsible for keeping updated on the rehearsal schedule.  There will be 5 performances and at least two dress rehearsals, one at the studio and another at the Theatre.  Students (unless ill or required for a family emergency) are required to be at all rehearsals for their roles.  If a student misses too many rehearsals they will not be able to perform (How many is too many? By 2, you are in the danger zone).  In a production, everyone counts on everyone else in order to be successful.  Dress rehearsals are mandatory.

For the audition, students will fill out the registration form and then be divided into groups according to age and skill level. Students will then be brought into the studio one group at a time for audition.  Young children are about 20 minutes and there are usually two or three groups (this varies from year to year). Try to relax and enjoy yourself.  The purpose of the audition is to place dancers in roles that best suit them.  On the registration there is a space for dancers to write the roles they most desire (Please do not write roles you wish to be excluded from).  I will consider what each dancer would like, but I cannot promise any role and it is not uncommon for dancers to be in the same roles for many years.

There is a $45 participation fee for each dancer and a $15 cleaning fee for each costume which is due by October 1st.

Performances/Rehearsal dates: Dress rehearsal at School:TBA. Dress Rehearsal at Theatre: Thursday, December 14th at 5:30. Performances are: Friday, December 16th 7:00 pm, Saturday Dec. 17th 2:00 and 7:00, Sunday Dec. 18th at 1:00 and 6:00 pm.

Please note that all times listed above (except School Dress Rehearsal) have a one hour prior curtain call time.
